Currents of Change in English Language Teaching is a collection of key papers published in ELT Journal between 1982 and 1988. It is divided into three main sections. The first deals with the role and purpose of ELT and in particular culture-specific implications; the second explorers the communicative approach to language teaching and its effects on the profession; and the third focuses on certain issues in the methodology of teaching and teacher-training. Each section has a commentary by the Editors, linking the themes and pointing to the importance of recent developments in the field.
