'Splash' is a four-level course for 7 to 12 year-olds, which has been designed to make learning English easy and fun. It combines English with cross-curricular topics chosen for their interest to children. Pupils learn by doing, in pairs and in groups, through stories, games, drama, songs and rhymes, and consolidate what they learn through book-centred activities. At levels 1 and 2, focus language is presented by short cartoon stories featuring a group of British children, their schoolfriends and families. In levels 3 and 4, there are also project pages, plays and 'real life' language, which should involve pupils in more demanding tasks and combine language work with other interests and study subjects. This teacher's book includes guidance on foreign language teaching at primary level and on continuous pupil assessment; a breakdown of language, topics and skills covered at each level; detailed teaching notes; and sample tests which can be photocopied.
