This is the main language textbook for science and technology in the Series of Specialized Chinese Textbooks for Foreigners Studying in China, a specific Chinese language textbook for international students learning Science as an intensive course to prepare them for their future study in China. It bridges the gap between their study of the general course of Chinese language and the intensive course of mathematics, physics or chemistry. This course goes with Chinese for Science and Technology—Reading and Writing, in which the listening comprehension exercises are focused on and supplemented by the speaking ones. The main purposes are as follows: to develop international students’ basic Chinese knowledge and skills necessary for their study in the field of mathematics, physics, chemistry or computer; to improve their listening and speaking abilities in Chinese for science and technology; to remove their language barrier in the above-mentioned academic fields and provide the language support necessary for the intensive study of their majors. It is meticulously designed with the utmost care for the user’s well-being. For example, the contents of MP3 is added for students to index and study on their own; the booklet “listening scripts and answer keys” is accompanied by handwritten scripts and the Chinese in three handwritten stages are differentiated, thus improving students’ recognition of the handwritten form of Chinese language after their enrollment to the faculty; all the new words and phonetic exercise are provided with recording and are respectively divided into two files so as to help students repeatedly imitate the pronunciation and speed up their code-switching. The book is provided with an accompanying MP3, which includes the new words and phonetic exercises in each lesson.
